The Navajo Department of Health (NDOH) is proud to partner with Wings of America to bring youth running and fitness camps to communities across the Navajo Nation this summer.

Inspired by the cultural, spiritual, and competitive legacy of Native runners, these camps empower Native youth and their families through health, fitness, and mentorship. Young runners will learn from accomplished Native athletes who are passing on their knowledge, discipline, and passion for running to the next generation.

Together, we are encouraging healthy lifestyles, building confidence, strengthening communities, and honoring the traditions that have made running a sacred part of Native culture for generations.

Juneteenth - Clarification of Holiday Status

The Department of Personnel Management issues this memorandum clarifying that while Juneteenth National Independence Day (June 19) is recognized as an observed holiday on the Navajo Nation calendar in acknowledgment of its federal designation and historical significance, it is not a paid holiday for Navajo Nation employees at this time. This is because its inclusion in the NNPPM was never formally approved by the Navajo Nation Council's Health, Education and Human Services Committee (HEHSC).

As a result, employees are required to report to work on June 19 unless on pre-approved leave, no holiday pay code is to be applied in Dayforce, and supervisors are directed not to approve unplanned absences on the basis of paid holiday status. DPM is committed to pursuing the proper legislative process to bring this matter before the HEHSC for formal consideration and, if approved, official amendment to the NNPPM.
