Navajo Nation Heritage & Historic Preservation Department (NNHHPD) is pleased to announce the establishment of the Navajo Nation Heritage Legacy Awards. It is a new recognition program honoring individuals who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to safeguarding, promoting, and enriching Diné heritage and cultural resource management. The awards highlight achievements across academic research, traditional knowledge, community-driven preservation, and policy advocacy.

The 2026 honorees are: 

• Klara B. Kelley, Ph.D. – Lifetime Achievement Award

• Roy Kady – Diné Bí ‘Iiná Násyóóleeł Award

• Anthony Klesert, Ph.D. – “Friend of the Navajo” Award

The inaugural ceremony will take place July 25, 2026.

By recognizing outstanding contributions, NNHHPD seeks to inspire continued dedication to protecting Diné heritage, ensuring that the stories, places, and lifeways of the Navajo people endure with strength for generations to come.
